Instagram and Vine

Instagram, what a cool app!  It is one that I have not really played with much until this week.  Here are some of my photos that I have posted!  I have used it for personal use so far, but plan to start using it for educational use.

Of course, I have to support my Texans for game day!

We are leaving soon for our Disney Cruise and couldn't be more excited!  I made these door hangers using my Cricut!

This is one way I could see it being used in the classroom....posting pictures of anchor charts for parents to be able to help their child with homework!  Other ways include posting pictures of happenings throughout the day, capturing memories, or anything that you need a picture of to share!

I used Twitter's video app, Vine to create this short clip with Tellagami.  The disadvantage is that it has to be very short.  It does allow you to cut the video though.  Students could also use this to practice vocabulary, make quick book summaries, or act out a scene from a book.

If you are looking for ideas on how to use Instagram in your classroom, look no further!  This website has so many great ideas from field trips to student progress.  Check them out!

If you are interested in using Vine in your classroom, check this and this out.  They have some pretty cool ideas on how to incorporate them.

For me personally, Vine has too much going on.  I have a hard time focusing with so much movement on the page.  It is not something that I will probably use, but am sure that it works great for others.  Instagram, on the other hand, I enjoyed and think it would be cool to use in the classroom to get a home to school connection.

  1. I agree with you that Vine has too much going on. It took me awhile to understand how to use it.

  2. I also agree about vine. I was never a fan. Many of the teenagers have moved past vine. Instagram is okay. There are definitely uses in the classroom for it. I think you just have to collaborate with teachers to know what app best meets their needs.

  3. Misty,
How exciting, have fun on your cruise! Great idea for posting anchor charts.
I'm new to both, and I can see where Vine can be too much. I still liked the fact that it's quick and to the point.
    Thanks for the link tips!

  4. Great idea about the anchor chart. I would love it if I could have a little help at night when helping my daughter with her homework.

  5. It seems like Instagram is the app most kids are going to, and I also read that Snapchat is the "go-to" app for kids to share because it's quick and easy. But you have to be on their list to get it, and it goes away pretty fast... Ten seconds, I think...

  6. Vine just makes me dizzy. Too much movement and if kids are not using it and parents are not using it, then it's time for me to start searching for something more relevant.

  8. I find it to be a great idea to use Instagram and Vine in an educational environment. I like how you posted about being able to post anchor charts so that the students can use them to assist with their homework. It makes me think of other ways that Instagram and Vine may be able to be used in a classroom or library.

  9. It's a fantastic idea you had to share anchor charts via Instagram. So much good information is created when creating anchor charts with students - it's always a shame that information stays in the classroom when it could be utilized at home. Great way to share.
